New members always welcome. Membership fee: £1 per year.
Saughall Gardening club meets in the main hall in the Vernon Institute at 7.30pm on the third Monday of each month, except December and August. This is a popular and friendly club and has more than 80 members. The annual membership of £1 per person is all you have to pay for most of the monthly meetings. There is no additional charge for most meetings.
We enjoy an interesting range of talks from local experts or regional and national speakers. We have a quiz night in the spring, for which we sell tickets in advance, and that includes refreshments; you are welcome to bring your own alcohol!! We also have an annual trip to a local garden, for which there is an extra entry charge. In August, we run a Flower, Vegetable and Produce Show; entries for the show are welcome from members and non- members.
Our annual show is held on the third Saturday of August and has a range of classes including cut flowers, vegetables, flower arrangements, children’s classes, pot plants, cakes and jams. Most of the fruit and vegetables entered in the show are auctioned off at the end of the show, so come along and join in the bidding for some locally grown produce. The show is open to the public from 2pm, so please come along and have a look at the entries and applaud the winners, who are awarded their prizes just before the auction at 3pm.
If you would like to join Saughall Gardening Club, or just want to check us out, come along to the next meeting. Events and Speakers are on the village notice boards.
Members of the Gardening Club can obtain a 20% discount from Johnson’s Oaktree Nursery, Fiddlers Lane, on production of their membership card.
